The Tradition & Innovation Award focuses on the preservation of traditional crafts and their modern evolution. It is designed to recognize outstanding contributors in preserving and innovating ceramic crafts. The winners should demonstrate their endeavors in the systematic protection and dynamic evolution of traditional crafts. While keeping the essence of traditional techniques, they take the initiative to explore innovative paths and promote the passing down and development of traditional crafts in contemporary society. They should make outstanding contributions, especially in areas such as the revival of endangered crafts, talent cultivation, teaching of traditional crafts, academic research, and innovation.
Ceramic artisans, intangible cultural heritage inheritors, scholars, and design teams worldwide whose works are based on local traditional crafts (such as Chinese blue and white porcelain, Japanese raku ware, and European enameled porcelain), and reflect the systematic protection or innovative development of the crafts.
1. Commitment to traditional crafts: The candidate can maintain the core techniques of traditional crafts (such as material formulas, firing processes, and decoration techniques) in their works. 2. Craft innovation: The candidate can take a contemporary approach to innovating the crafts by replacing materials, reconstructing subjects (such as abstract expressions of traditional patterns), or expanding use scenarios (such as the uses of traditional forms in modern life). 3. International perspective: The candidate can interpret traditional crafts from a cross-cultural perspective to empower the global transmission of local ceramic culture.
1.Cash reward: RMB 30,000 for each winner; 2. Co-branding: Winners will have the opportunities to partner with brands in co-developing products.
Note: Please make sure that the submitted works meet the criteria specified for the award applied for. Applicants should be at least 18 years old. The works can be created individually or collectively, with ceramics as the main medium. All submitted works should be original, and have never been publicly released in the last three years, used in other competitions, exhibited and commercially published on any platform. Adaptations, reproductions, or works that closely mimic existing concepts will not be accepted. Each "nominating committee member" can nominate 3 works, which will directly proceed to the re-evaluation stage.
