Description

As the benchmark award of the highest honor in the Jingdezhen Prize competition, the Jingdezhen Prize reflects the leading position and creative voice of Jingdezhen as the "world capital of ceramics" and "center of crafts" in the global contemporary art context. It encourages artists to use ceramics as the main medium and integrate the characteristics of materials, technique innovation, and global artistic trends to create avant-garde works that embody both eastern aesthetics and the ability for international dialogue, establishing a value benchmark for ceramic art in the contemporary cultural context.

Eligible candidates

Artists, designers, and interdisciplinary creators worldwide who use ceramics as their primary creative medium. The works must be original ceramic art pieces in diverse forms, such as sculpture, installations, and experimental ceramics.

Criteria

1. Depth of cultural narrative: The candidate can use ceramics as a medium to showcase regional culture, philosophical ideas, or social issues, providing a contemporary interpretation of traditional aesthetics. 2. Technically innovative capability: The candidate can achieve substantial progress in material development and technique breakthroughs, providing verifiable areas of technical breakthroughs. 3. Internationally relevant aesthetics: The design language and visual system can align with global contemporary aesthetic trends and display cross-cultural empathy that can resonate spiritually with audiences in different contexts. 4. Comprehensive characteristics of the era: The work can provide a response to the themes of the times, showcasing the inclusiveness and foresight of ceramic art.

Prizes & opportunities

1.Cash reward: RMB 100,000; 2.Creative residency: Six-month free residency at the Taoxichuan Art Studio (with basic materials and workspace provided); 3.Curated exhibition: The winning work will be featured in an exhibition at the Taoxichuan Art Gallery in Jingdezhen or partner agencies.

Note: Please make sure that the submitted works meet the criteria specified for the award applied for. Applicants should be at least 18 years old. The works can be created individually or collectively, with ceramics as the main medium. All submitted works should be original, and have never been publicly released in the last three years, used in other competitions, exhibited and commercially published on any platform. Adaptations, reproductions, or works that closely mimic existing concepts will not be accepted. Each "nominating committee member" can nominate 3 works, which will directly proceed to the re-evaluation stage.
